Not long after I finished school I completed a writing course at my local Community College. About 15 years ago, I purchased a course from The Writers’ Bureau. Of course, at the time, the most technical aspect of doing it was using email. The module booklets came in a lovely storage box and I completed the first task (yep, just that one). I still have the booklets which were the first resources I added to my writing library.

Since then the journey has been slow, but always lingering in my subconscious. As a school teacher I was once privileged to take a group of students to the Sydney Writers’ Festival where I was able to hear Morris Gleitzman and Deborah Abela, among others, speak about their approaches to writing. I have attended author talks whenever the opportunities are presented. Unfortunately, these events often coincide with work days.
I completed the Writing Picture Books course with the Australian Writer’s Centre and have completed two picture books. I am currently exploring publishing options.
Most recently, I have participated in Gabbie Stroud‘s 3 Writers 3 Months mentoring experience. Gabbie is a bestselling author whose individualised approach has provided a tailored experience which has allowed us to explore the numerous writing opportunities available to me.

Lots of multi-published authors are average, and lots of unpublished writers are fantastic.

You might have the world’s absolute best story idea, but I can’t read the words when they are in your head. You have to turn up and write them down.
